How one is made.

Each pickup starts from a recipe. Then it’s wound to taste, the way a chef cooks.

  1. Bobbin: two fibre plates and the rods between them
  2. Magnets: the rods are the magnets and the poles
  3. Wire: enamelled copper, finer than a hair
  4. Wind: by hand, every turn counted, never neat
  5. Wrap: fabric string, tied off by hand
  6. Pot: partial, full or none on request

The old ones.

Early T-type bridge wire
43 AWG plain enamel, then 421
Resistance
About 10 kΩ, then about 7.5 kΩ1
Magnets
Alnico III, then Alnico V from about 19541
Wrap
Parcel string, then wax1
